What if newspapers reported science the way they cover the World Series?

Then I honestly wouldn’t have a life. Fantasy Science League anyone?!

Who, Exactly, Supports a Public Option?

“So let’s take a step back: Among the American populace, who supports the public option? Overall, over 60%, actually. But the figures are heavily bifurcated by income. Middle-income and poorer households strongly support spending more to cover the uninsured. Richer households tend not to, which isn’t surprising. People’s political beliefs generally conform to self-interest, and the rich tend to already have health insurance. But what is surprising is how pronounced the differences in opinion are. And the graph above, drawn from 2004 data, ingeniously illustrates that point.” (read more)…

Drawing observations

Just a stupid observation and you will probably laugh at me because this is so….fundamental. But every time I figure out a technique that I should have figured out years ago back in my first days of college and drawing classes…I have to laugh at myself.

I noticed that if I’m drawing a long line, straight or curved…if I look ahead of my hand while I’m drawing it, it turns out perfect! Jeff Smith watch out.

The Galapagos Effect in Healthcare

A quick read: Robert Fabricant of Frog Design writes about his reactions to this year’s Pacific Health Summit in Seattle. Let’s just say he left really freaked out and disappointed. Despite that…He does an awesome job at explaining some of the problems he has with the industry’s mindset of what healthcare innovation should be these days. It’s nice to be able to see these types of personal observations from a master designer’s standpoint.

"I am not alone in my ability to settle for an industrial design career that does nothing but perpetuate the senseless need for, and purchasing of, more stuff."
